ABOUT ME

Biography:

Jodie Aznar was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. She is a contemporary artist who is known for her detailed work in portraiture, comics and graphic design. Her love of writing expands her artistry, as she has written several online poems and stories. Capturing emotion in any medium shows her true understanding of various art, whether it be drawing or writing. Mostly self-taught, she studied at Florida Atlantic University, received her BA in Studio Art, and mastered her craft.

She currently resides in South Florida, where she is continuing to create portraits, but cleverly utilizes typography, mixed media and triptychs. Her current work is exploring the dichotomy between connection and isolation, and the effects of social media on our present and ever-changing world.

Her portrait series on racism in America, "A Stumble is not a Fall" can be seen at the 2016 ART BEAT MIAMI: 3RD ANNUAL SATELLITE ART FAIR in Little Haiti from November 30 to December 4, 2016. For more information, visit: http://artbeatmiami.com/

She will also be participating in next year's Lake Worth Street Painting Festival on February 25 and 26, 2017. For more information, visit: http://www.streetpaintingfestivalinc.org/

Artist Statement:

Drawing has always been my way of communicating my thoughts, feelings, ideas and emotions. I heavily work in portraits because people are my muse; faces are not just faces, but a vehicle of emotions waiting to be expressed. My work expresses that need through color. Using various media: pen and ink, permanent marker, pastels, I capture that face, the vice, that we all hide behind.

Our current state of selfies and the need to be seen continues the passion of portraiture. Social media has blessed and cursed us with the expanding and readily available information. Exploring the dichotomy of connection and isolation has given me a new perspective on portraiture and emotion.

Influenced greatly by Leonardo Da Vinci’s anatomical studies, I apply his meticulous accuracy of the human face, but add more symbolic uses of color. I explore breaking down a face with stippling. Drawing will always be my most amenable outlet for translating my inner vision to an outer reality.
